‘Mirabelle de Nancy’ is one of the most renowned mirabelle plum varieties in Europe, celebrated for its intensely sweet fruit and long tradition in orchards and gardens. Originating from the Lorraine region of France, it remains a favourite among gardeners who appreciate classic European plum varieties.

This variety produces small, round golden-yellow plums often marked with fine reddish speckles or a soft blush when fully ripe. The flesh is tender, juicy, and exceptionally sweet with a delicate honeyed aroma. The fruit is excellent for fresh eating as well as baking, jams, compotes, and preserves. Harvest typically takes place in late summer, often during August depending on seasonal warmth and local growing conditions.

This mirabelle grows as a semi dwarf fruit tree, remaining more manageable than traditional full-sized plum trees while still producing generous yields. The controlled size is achieved through grafting onto a slow-growing rootstock, a technique widely used in professional orchards to regulate tree height and support consistent fruit production.

In spring the tree produces abundant white blossoms that attract bees and other pollinators, creating a beautiful ornamental display before the foliage fully develops.

‘Mirabelle de Nancy’ is self-fertile and capable of producing fruit without another plum tree nearby, although planting additional plum varieties can sometimes improve overall yield.
